Construct
circle pattern by folding a square of tissue paper as shown.
Measure and mark 16.5cm from the centre point to create a curve, then
cut out circle.
Cut 2 circles of fleece 33cm in diameter.
In the centre of one of the large circles, cut a 20cm diameter circle.
Cut pattern as shown to make this step easier. Pin
pattern to one of the large circles, cut out center circle.
Pin the two circles right sides together and stitch a 6mm
seam.
Trim seam allowance to reduce bulk.
Cut a piece of ribbing that is 12cm wide and 45cm long. (You may
wish to vary the length depending on the stretch of the ribbing and
the size of the person's head.)
Stitch the ends of the ribbing together and fold in half lengthwise
to form a band for the beret.
Pin ribbing band to the inside cut circle of the beret, right sides
together, stretching
the ribbing to fit around the opening.
Stretching the ribbing as you stitch, sew the ribbing to the
beret.
Turn right side out.
For A Child's Beret
Measure child's head circumference (A).
Divide this measurement in half to get the diameter (B).
Add 13cm to the diameter to determine the diameter of the large
circle pieces [ie. (B) + 13cm = (D)]
Cut a circle from the center of one of the large circles that has a
diameter equal to measurement (B).
Pin the two circles right sides together and stitch a 6mm seam.
Trim and botch seam allowance of seam to reduce bulk.
Cut a piece of ribbing that is 10cm wide and [(D) + 10cm] wide.
Stitch the ends of the ribbing together and fold in half lengthwise
to form a band for the beret.
Pin ribbing band to the inside cut circle of the beret, right sides
together, stretching
the ribbing to fit around the opening.
Stretching the ribbing as you sew, stitch the ribbing to the beret.
