Fleece Pillowcase Blanket

by
Tammy Karabotsos
June Winning Suggestion

This blanket is wonderful in the car to slip your legs into, and doubles as a pillowcase or as a bag for carting those endless toys into the motel.  Or roll it up under your head of a soft moldable pillow!

Also perfect for keeping warm while watching TV or reading a book on cool evenings.

You may wish to make this blanket longer to accommodate longer legs.

MATERIALS

2 - 1m pieces Fleece Fabric
Matching thread
Active binding (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  1. fleece_pillowcase_blanket.gif (35388 bytes)Pin the two pieces of Fleece right sides together.
  2. Stitch along the two longer sides and one short end, as shown.
  3. Fold down open end 0.6cm twice to make a rolled hem.  Pin in place, then stitch as shown. See active binding option below for a different edge finish.
  4. Turn right side out and enjoy!

TIPS & ALTERNATIVES

OPTIONAL - Instead of finishing the open edge with a rolled hem, apply active binding to finish the look.  Choose a contrasting colour for a fun look. For tips on how to apply active binding, click here.
Another alternative is to stitch the fleece wrong sides together on the three sides.  Trim the seam allowance close to stitching, then apply seam binding over the seam allowances.  Apply seam binding to the open edge after you have applied it to the side seams.
Have fun with the many fantastic Fleeces to choose from!  Choose two contrasting or coordinating fabrics to give you two decorating options.
