Colour to Dye For

|
| Dylon Multi-purpose Dye comes in a wide variety
of bright colours and will dye both nylon and natural fabrics. It's
ideal for small articles such as nylon underwear and tights. |
| Dylon Cold Water Dye will give permanent colour
to natural fabrics, when used with Dylon Cold Fix. It has many uses
in crafts, particularly batik and tie dye. See our projects section
for some easy batik and tie dye projects. |
| Dylon Pre-Dye/ Dygon removes colour from non-colourfast
natural fabrics and nylon, returning the fabric to a neutral
shade ready for dyeing. Dylon Pre-Dye/ Dygon is not recommended for
use on fabrics with any special finishes, e.g. water-proofing, and should
be used only by hand.

Which Fabrics Can You Treat?
|
How Much Dye Do You Need?

|
| The amount of dye required depends on the DRY
weight of the article or garment you wish to dye. Each tin of Dylon
Multi-purpose Dye and Cold Water Dye will dye up to 250g/ 8oz.
Increase the amount of dye proportionally for increased
weights.
The chart above gives examples of the more commonly dyed
articles. Remember to weigh the article when DRY.
|
What Colour Dye?

|
| The colours shown on the Dylon tins are achieved
when dyeing white fabric.
On recommended non-colourfast fabrics, you can return the colour to
neutral by first using Dylon Pre-Dye/ Dygon (see tin for full
instructions). Alternatively try Dylon dyes on coloured fabrics,
including patterned fabrics. For example, yellow dye on blue fabric
will give green; red dye on yellow fabric will give orange; blue dye on
red fabric will give purple and so on.
The examples above show some of the effects that can be achieved.
The first piece of fabric in each group shows the fabric before it was
dyed, and the others show the effect of dyeing in different colours. |
