Estimating Fabric Requirements
For Double Fold Binding (cut on the cross grain)
-
Width: Add 2 times the width you want the binding to be, plus the
width of the seam allowances. Multiply the result by 2 to get the width to
cut. (if using a very thick batting add 1/4" to allow for extra
fullness.)

___________
Width to Cut |
-
Length: measure around the outside edge of the quilt and add
12". This allows for mitering corners and overlapping where the binding
starts and stops.

-
Number of Strips: Measure the width of the fabric and subtract
the width of the strip being cut to get a maximum width available. This
allows for seams. Divide the total length needed by the width available to
give the number of strips needed.
